He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
