And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 Allah said: after a little while they will become regretful. 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Then after them We raised other generations. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
