۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
