a good many of olden times, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
