The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
