The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation. 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
