He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way - this is the advice. 11 and whoso wills, shall remember it 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
