He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
