The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
