And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 With it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth- 193 upon thy heart, [O Muhammad] so that thou mayest be among those who preach 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 And indeed it is mentioned in the earlier Books. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment 201 And it shall come to them all of a sudden, while they shall not perceive; 202 they say: "Can we be granted some respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Hast thou then seen, if We content them for (long) years, 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 And this Qur’an was not brought down by the devils. 210 neither are they worthy of it, nor are they capable of it, 211 Indeed they are debarred from even hearing it. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers. 215 then, if they disobey thee, say, 'I am quit of that you do.' 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 Who watches you when you get up, 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 220 Shall I declare unto you upon whom the satans descend! 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 and how they say that which they do not? 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
