The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
