We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 When it is properly shaped and I have blown My Spirit into it, you should then bow down in prostration". 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 (satan) said: 'My Lord, for Your perverting me, I shall make (matters) in the earth seem most fair to them and I shall pervert all, 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
