The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
