Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
We sent Noah to his people telling him, "Warn your people before a painful torment approaches them". 1 He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner, 2 Worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me. 3 He will forgive you some of your faults and grant you a delay to an appointed term; surely the term of Allah when it comes is not postponed; did you but know! 4 He said: my Lord! Verily I have called my people night and day. 5 "But all my calling added nothing but to (their) flight (from the truth). 6 Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. 7 Then I invited them publicly. 8 Then verily I spake unto them openly and secretly. I also addressed them. 9 And I have said: Seek pardon of your Lord. Lo! He was ever Forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant 11 and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. 12 What is the matter with you that you deny the greatness of God, 13 While He has created you in stages? 14 Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens, one above another, 15 setting in them the moon as a light and the sun as a lantern? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse 19 That ye may thread the valley-ways thereof. 20
