The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers); 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 Then press forward as in a race, 4 And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account). 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 And the second followeth it, 7 On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing, 8 Unable to lift their gaze. 9 (The disbelievers) say, "Shall we be brought back to life again 10 After having turned to carious bones?" 11 They say, "That, then, would be a losing return." 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 So they will immediately be in an open plain. 14 (Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned his back, striving. 22 Then he gathered and cried aloud, 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 So Allah seized him with the punishment of the hereafter and the former life. 25 Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth. 26
