Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 into My Paradise. 30
