Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
