a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
