The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
