۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
