The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 it scorches the skin; 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
