Nay, by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
