Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
