(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
