The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 We have indeed shown him the way whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 [And they will be told:] "Verily, all this is your reward since Your endeavour [in life] has met [God's] goodly acceptance!" 22
