He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
