The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
