Al-A 'araaf 12 of 24

And We sent no Prophet unto any town (and they denied him), but We seized its people with suffering from extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss of health and calamities, so that they might humiliate themselves (and repent to Allah). 94 then We gave them in the place of evil good, till they multiplied, and said, 'Hardship and happiness visited our fathers.' So We seized them suddenly, unawares. 95 Had the people of the towns believed (in Our revelations) and maintained piety, We would have certainly showered on them Our blessings from the sky and the earth. But they called Our revelations lies, thus Our torment struck them for their evil deeds. 96 Are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them as a night-raid while they sleep? 97 Or do the inhabitants of the villages feel secure from Our Might coming to them in the midmorning while they play? 98 Can they remain secure against the plan of God? Only they feel secure against the plan of God who are certain of being ruined. 99
