۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
