[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician. 34 “He wishes to expel you out of your land by his magic; so what is your advice?” 35 They replied: 'Put him and his brother off for a while, and send heralds to your cities 36 "To bring up to you every well-versed sorcerer." 37 So the sorcerers were gathered on the appointed day 38 and the people were asked: Are you all present, 39 That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?" 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me). 42 (Moses) asked the magicians, "Cast down what you want to". 43 Thereupon they threw their [magic ropes and their staffs, and said: "By Pharaoh's might, behold, it is we indeed who have prevailed!" 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 46 And said: "We (affirm and) believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 48 He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.' 49 They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! 50 "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]." 51
