The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
