The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
