The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
