The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
