The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
