He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
