Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 By the luminious Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
