Therefore continue to give warning, for by the grace of your Lord, you are not a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say, "Wait, I too am waiting with you". 31 Is it their minds that bid them [to take] this [attitude] - or are they [simply] people filled with overweening arrogance? 32 Do they say: 'He has invented it' No, they do not believe. 33 So let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful 34 Have they been created from nothing or are they themselves their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and earth? Nay, but they have not sure faith. 36 Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? 37 Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof. 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt? 40 Or do they have knowledge of the Unknown which they write down? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Or have they a god other than God? Exalted be God over what they ascribe as partners [to Him]! 43 And if they should see a fragment of the heaven falling down, they would say: it is only clouds piled up. 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 Their deception will not avail them in the least on that day, nor will they be helped. 46 And verily for those who do wrong there is a torment before that; but most of them know not. 47 Await the judgement of your Lord, for you are always before Our eyes, and glorify your Lord with praises when you rise, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
