The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 For a mighty day, 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds? 36
