He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain - how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
