He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
