The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
