Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
