Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
