Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
