The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
