He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
