۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Then, are we not to die 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
