SAY [O Muhammad]: "I am only a warner; and there is no deity whatever save God, the One, who holds absolute sway over all that exists, 65 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the Almighty, the All-Forgiving!" 66 Say: "This is a momentous message, 67 (And) you are turning aside from it: 68 I have no knowledge of the dispute among the angels (concerning their attitude towards Adam). 69 It is revealed unto me only that I may be a plain warner. 70 [For,] lo, thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create a human being out of clay; 71 after I have shaped him and breathed of My spirit (I created) into him, fall down prostrate before him' 72 The angels prostrated themselves, all of them. 73 except iblis (satan, the father of the jinn), he became too proud, for he was one of the unbelievers. 74 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the high exalted?" 75 He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay." 76 (Allah) said: "Then get out from here, for verily, you are outcast. 77 And surely My curse is on you to the day of judgment. 78 He (satan) replied: 'Respite me my Lord till the Day of Resurrection' 79 He said: “You are of those who have been granted respite 80 for an appointed time". 81 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "By Your Might, then I will surely mislead them all, 82 “Except Your chosen bondmen among them.” 83 [And God] said: "This, then, is the truth! And this truth do I state: 84 That I shall fill Hell with thee and such of them as shall follow thee, all together. 85 Say, [O Muhammad], "I do not ask you for the Qur'an any payment, and I am not of the pretentious 86 This is only a warning for mankind. 87 And ye will come in time to know the truth thereof. 88
