Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
