The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
