Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish. 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 and they will say, 'Shall we be respited?' 203 Do they really want Our chastisement to be expedited? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down, 210 It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able. 211 Indeed they have been banished from the place of hearing. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 And lower thou thy wing unto those who follow thee as believers. 215 Then if they disobey you say to them: "I am quit of what you do." 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 And as for the poets -- it is the misled who follow them. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and how they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
